Jack Bennett, Jr. age 68, a former resident of Muncie, Indiana, died Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his daughter’s home in De Queen, Arkansas.
He was born November 26, 1948 in De Queen. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 32 years. He served as a Deacon at Christ Temple Global Ministries in Muncie. Mr. Bennett loved serving the Lord, fishing, working in his yard, being with his family, especially his grandchildren, helping at his church, watching Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Bennett and Oline Nelson; three brothers, James Bennett, Sandy Bennett, and an infant brother; an infant sister; and a great granddaughter Sadie Walton.
He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Bennett of De Queen and Dawn Pegues of Grande Prairie, Texas; two sons, Anthony Bennett Sr. of Houston, Texas and Matthew Dante Bennett of Muncie; three brothers, H.J. Hendrix of De Queen, Melvin “Moon” Bennett of Muncie, and James (Maria) Bennett of New York; six sisters, Victoria (Bobby) Curly of Aurora, Colorado, Willie Bell Bowers of De Queen, Betty Neal of Ashdown, Arkansas, Rita Bennett of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Floy Armstrong (Brian), of Valliant, Oklahoma, Gloria Bennett of De Queen; Grandchildren, Martega (Mercedez) Walton of De Queen, Jalan Bennett of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Quinshaun Bennett-Hale of De Queen, Anthony Bennett, Jr. of Ashdown, Kameron Benton-Bennett of Houston, Ariana Bennett of Dallas, Texas, Don-Tez Young, Don-Quez Young, DunYae Lipscomb, and Donnie Young all of Grande Prairie, Texas, Mattaneeka Bennett of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Laionna Bennett, Lishai Bennett, Cash Bennett all of Muncie; Great-Grandchildren, Braeden Walton, Kaydence Walton, and Jaxon Walton of De Queen; four aunts, Elnora K. Scale of Muncie, Virginia Haynes of Atlanta, Georgia, Agnus Gilmore and Willie Boyles of De Queen; one uncle, Leroy Nelson also of De Queen; a special angel, Maria Shores of Muncie; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Bennett will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017 in the New Zion Baptist Church in De Queen with Rev. Jesse Miller and Elder Richard Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Family will receive friends Friday, September 15, 2017 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
